Romandiola

In the second half of the 6th Century, the Lombards conquered most of Northern and Central Italy. But they were unable to make any headway into the territory governed by the Byzantine Exarch of Ravenna protected as it was by his own troops and by the fleet moored at Ravenna. The wide valleys and the natural barrier of the Appennines, facilitated the defense of this "exarchal island". This remained the only territory in Italy distinguished by laws, customs and an agricultural, food system based on truly Roman and Mediterranean models. This "island" assumed the name "Romandiola" , which then became Romania and, later, Romagna.

Romandiola Sangiovese di Romagna DOC Riserva (Il Pavone d’Oro) received the Special Mention, an important recognition for still red wines.

Award at the International Wine Competition at Vinitaly 2010:
Romandiola Sangiovese di Romagna DOC (Il Malatesta) received the Special Mention.
Awards at the Wine Style Asia Award 2010, held in conjunction with the Wine For Asia Fair: Romandiola Sangiovese di Romagna DOC Riserva (Il Pavone d’Oro)won the silver medal for Riserva class under 8.00 $.
Romandiola Albana Passito DOCG (Contessa Armida) won the silver medal, Ice Wine class.
Romandiola Sangiovese di Romagna DOC (Il Malatesta) won the silver medal for still red wine under 8.00 $.
Romandiola Vollì Spumante Brut sparkling won the bronze medal, sparkling wine class.
